    FH Showcase Raises $61,000+

    July 12, 2012 | brlax.net

Lakewood, Ohio – April 26, 2012Burning River Lacrosse announces the results of its 5th annual Fisher House Charity Lacrosse Showcase to benefit the Greater Cleveland Fisher House.  This year’s event was held on Saturday April 21, 2012 at Hawken School’s Walton Stadium.  The event featured varsity and junior varsity games between area High Schools including Hawken School, University School, West Geauga, Avon Lake, Orange, Brecksville-Broadview Heights, Kenston, and Stow-Munroe Falls.  The event also featured guest speakers Dodi and Loren Mounts, who shared their family’s story and Fisher House experiences with the event participants and attendees.

The cold, wind, and rain did not deter fans from coming out and supporting this year’s event, which raised over $61,000 for the Greater Cleveland Fisher House.

“We really appreciate everyone who braved the weather and came out to support this year’s fund raiser,” stated Woody Calleri, Director. “The funds raised will support the building of the Greater Cleveland Fisher House and its mission of providing a “home-away-from-home” for America’s military families so that they can be with their severely wounded and/or ill family member(s) during those service members’ medical treatment and/or lengthy physical and/or occupational therapy treatments.

Event revenues were generated through sponsorships, donations, t-shirt and short sales, ticket sales, and concessions sales.  This year’s event marks Burning River Lacrosse’s fifth Fisher House event with a 5 year fundraising total of over $240,000.

“On behalf of the Fisher House Foundation, The Burning River Lacrosse players, coaches, and families, the high school participants and our program sponsors would like to thank everyone who donated, attended or volunteered at this year’s event,” said Calleri.  “We hope to continue building the event each year. With another successful Fisher House Showcase behind us, we hope to have our biggest and best event in 2013.”

Fisher House (www.fisherhouse.org) is a philanthropic foundation that provides Fisher Houses (homes-away-from-home) for America’s military families so that they can be with their severely wounded and/or ill family member(s) during those service members’ medical treatment and/or lengthy physical and/or occupational therapy treatments.  The program began in 1990, and has offered over 4 million days of lodging to more than 160,000 families at a savings of more than $192 million in lodging costs, plus savings on subsistence and transportation costs since its inception.  By law, No family pays to stay at any Fisher House!

Burning River Lacrosse was founded in 2005 to provide developmental lacrosse opportunities at all levels (introduction to the game, improvement of skills, national competition and college exposure) to Northern Ohio’s lacrosse community.  The company also hosts charity events such as the Fall Breast Cancer Research Fund Raiser and the Spring Fisher House Charity Lacrosse Showcase to raise money and awareness for those in need and to teach participants about their responsibility to reach out and make a difference in the lives of others.
