  • 2019 Summer Travel Team Tryout Overview - See 2019 Invitation Letter

Burning River Lacrosse’s travel teams were founded in 2006 to showcase Northern Ohio lacrosse players who are highly skilled but also of high character. Unlike other travel teams that only accept coaches' recommendations, Burning River Lacrosse holds tryouts so that every player with an interest can showcase his talent and make a case for making the team.  As a result, our players are not primarily from 1 or 2 teams but are from numerous programs.  In fact, our 2018 teams had players from over 50 Northern Ohio schools.

Why Should My Son Play For Burning River? - Our Parents And Area Coaches Say It Best

To quote one local parent "The importance of your Club Lacrosse team is immeasurable, especially in the NCAA recruiting process. When we talked to parents about our move back to Cleveland everyone in the lacrosse community was familiar with Burning River, the calibre of the teams they put together and the quality of events BR attended.  As our son went through the process, sometimes playing with other local clubs that were closer to where we lived,  it was clear that the Woody and his team drew coaches from some of the best schools and exposed all the players to the some of the best tournaments in the country—that other clubs were not doing.   Our son loves playing for BR lacrosse.  The friends he made and the enjoyment he received from playing on a talented team against talented competitors fueled his desire to play college lacrosse. I am particularly grateful for the support from the BR team off the field and the knowledge that was shared with us as we continue to go through the recruiting process has been invaluable. Finally, it doesn’t mater how good a player is, if you’re NOT at the right tournament the coaches will never see that player. This is what sets BR apart from other programs."

To quote one local parent "My son loved every minute of it, including practices. I would pick him up from 3 hours of practice in 95 degree heat, and ask him how it was- every time he'd say, "AWESOME!".

To quote one local parent “Burning River’s staff has help us every step of the way. They have called coaches to be our son’s advocate, guided our son’s lacrosse improvement and guided us through the admissions process. I don’t know what we would have done without their help and advice.”

To quote one local high school coach “I have never seen anyone work as hard to get my players into college as Coach Calleri has. He has called numerous college coaches, provided the players and their families with feedback, laid out a timeline of things the player needs to do and helped guide them through the process. My kids would not be where they are today if Burning River Lacrosse wasn’t as proactive as they are.”

What If My Son Is Unable To Make The Initial Tryouts Or Did Not Know About Them?

We understand that for a host of reasons players can not always make the early tryouts. Because of this, we allow players to attend any of our skills camps or leagues and get evaulated at those events. We also attend numerous practices and games in the Spring where we evaluate players for summer opportunities. After all you never know when an injury, family emergency or career move is going to happen and create a spot on one of our summer teams.

If you would like to be evaluated and missed tryouts please contact coach Calleri at 216.373.5684 to make arrangements.

What Tournaments Will We Attend With Burning River?- Tentative 2019 Calendar

Tournament directors tend to finalize tournament dates, locations and cost in November / December. This means that our plans for the summer of 2019 will not be finalized until then. Our 2018 Schedule is listed below, we expect a similar schedule for 2019.

    High School Teams (2018 Schedule)

All High School Tournaments are National Recruiting events at the AA level - We DO NOT attend local or regional tournaments that have few college coaches, limited competition and easy wins. Additionally, we never play at the lowest level at a tournament. We are always in the AA bracket. Afterall, you are part of BR to improve your skills, face top competition and play in front of college coaches (over 180 coaches attended the tournaments we went to in 2018).
