What Is The Camp Mission

Our camps are focused on the goal of improving the camper's fundamental skills and understanding of team concepts. Our camps are not team camps but skills camps where the vast majority of time is spent teaching techniques and fundamentals in individual or small group sessions.

2011 3rd To 8th Grade Fundamental Skills Camp (June 20 - 22)

Every year we hear from unhappy parents who have spent $400, $500 or more to send their son to a "name" camp (sponsored by a well known player or one that states that he will be there) that barely taught him the fundamentals he needs to improve his game.  The name player either did not coach (just showed for a speech) or only showed the kids high level tricks. The parent then realizes that their fees only went to pad someones pocket rather than inprove their sons game.

Instead of having that happen to you send him to the Burning River Lacrosse Summer Day Camp.  Our camps are focused on the goal of improving the camper’s fundamental skills and understanding of team concepts.  They are not team camps but skills camps where the vast majority of time is spent teaching techniques and fundamentals in individual or small group sessions.  To that end the camp will include instruction on individual (Stick Skills), positional (Attack, Midfield, Defense and Goaltending), and team (Transition and Set Piece Offense and Defense) play.  Campers will receive instruction from some of the area’s best coaches and players in a low camper to instructor ratio.   Last year's coach / camper ratio was 6 to 1.

The leagues will be held at Broadview Heights Recreation Center (Rec Center).  The fields are located at 9543 Broadview Road.  The entrance is on the left.  For complete directions click on the directions button above or this link.

Coaches
The instruction will be given by some of the top area High School coaches, and Burning River Lacrosse alumni who are playing in college.

Pinnies/Uniforms
Campers must have a maroon / white reversible BR Lax pinnie ($20).  If you already have a BR Lax pinnie, you DO NOT have to purchase another one.

Water
We have water coolers at the fields but you need to bring containers.

Food
There are no food stands at the facilities, so players need to bring a bag lunch to the camp.

Equipment
Each player must bring a full set of equipment (helmet, shoulder pads, arm pads, gloves, athletic cup, mouth piece, and stick) to each game. Goalies must wear a throat guard.  NO EXCEPTIONS !

Shoes
All the fields are grass.  Plan accordingly.

Medical Insurance
Burning River does not provide medical insurance. All players must have their own medical insurance.

Weather Policy

We play in all weather except lightening.  Lightening will delay things 30 minutes but we will still try to get the camp in if the lightening was earlier in the morning.  A passing storm at 7 AM does not cancel the camp. If it is raining who cares this is not baseball we play.  If they get muddy so be it.  Kids love mud (at least my kids do) and the washing machine cleans up their clothes.  Some of you will ask at what point will you call it for rain?  I will put it this way, unless you see animals lining up two by two and a man building an arc we will play.

Should a session get cancelled due to lightening we will do the best we can to work with the facilities manager to schedule a make up date.  However, please understand that that may not always be possible.  We do not refund a percentage of the registration fee if weather cancel a session.
